As a venue/ Club programming a lot of Reggae, Dancehall and Hip Hop – genres often brought in relation with homophobia, misogyny and other prejudices – we are often exposed to criticism and face the decision whether we should or should not book/ host artists who face such accusations or had to face them at some point.
We are not very fond of strict political correctness, but as one of the major venues in Berlin and Germany when it comes to Hip Hop, Reggae and Dancehall, we also see our responsibility to be part of the change that those scenes need to make in order to pay women and members of the LGBT communities the respect that they deserve, and to share our love for that music with them!
The music we promote is Rebel Music. It is about social and political change, respect, equal rights, love and positiveness! Not about exclusion or hatred! In order to make sure that our platform is not misused nor mislead, we put up an Act which we will engage every artist and promoter to sign before putting on a show at YAAM from 2019 on. We hope this initiative will play its humble part on the long path to mutual understanding!
