What is the sound system in Jamaica is the Pico in Colombia! Brightly painted box towers characterize the image of the Colombian party landscape. Each Pico Picó can be identified in addition to his music selection strong and the hand-painted box towers. Soundsystem – Colombian Style!

With „El Volcán – El Orgullo de Berlin“ we present you the first and only picó party of the city. With the best Dj’s of the scene & live percussion here is a very special night full of tropical grooves! There is also a live screening of documentary „Benko’s Sons / Los Hijos de Benkos“ by Lucas Silva, live percussion and Caribbean snacks!

Con „El Volcán – El Orgullo de Berlín“ les presentamos la primera y única fiesta de picó de la ciudad. Una noche muy especial llena de grooves tropicales con los mejores Djs de la escena y percusión en vivo. También hay una proyección del documental „Benko’s Sons / Los Hijos de Benkos“ de Lucas Silva y fritos caribeños.

Mit „El Volcán – El Orgullo de Berlin“ präsentieren wir Euch die erste und einzigste Picó-Party der Stadt. Mit den besten Dj’s der Szene & Live Percussion steht hier eine ganz besondere Nacht voller Tropischer Grooves an! Dazu gibt es ein Live Screening of Sabroso a shortfilm of the contemporary Caribbean music scene. A trip from Bogotá to the Colombian coast in an attempt to understand the spirit of Caribbean groove, highlighting the soundsystems, the artwork, and a generation of musicians and producers creating a new music all their own. Directed by Luis Antonio Delgado and produced by Native Instruments.

The short film follows producer Mauricio Alvarez (aka Cero39) as he takes a trip to the Colombian coastal cities of Barranquilla and Cartagena, looking at the history of soundsystems and electronic music in those important cultural hotspots. The film features interviews with Fabian Altahona (Africolombia), Martin Leal, Shane Butron (owner of Discolombia), Dairo Barriosnuevo and many other important figures from Colombia’s champeta, vinyl and soundsystem cultures. SABROSO! A Road Trip to Colombia’s Caribbean Coast was directed by Luis Antonio Delgado. aka La Kobra Tropical who was also playing last time at El Volcan

* Bela Patrutzi (Tropical Timewarp)
A DJ, collector, blogger and member of the berlin based Tropical Timewarp collective, Bela Patrutzi dives deeper and deeper into the ocean of west african music. The main pool in his voyage is highlife from Nigeria and Ghana from the 1970´s and 80´s. A very danceable, soulful and diverse music style rooted in Ghana. Joining the waters are soukous, disco, funk and contemporary styles from the Ivory Coast, Benin, Mali and beyond.

Together with his DJ and promotion collective, Tropical Timewarp, Patrutzi has been contributing an essential part to Berlin´s tropical concert and party culture over the last 5 years. Using his blog mothershipsleeves.org to share his passion for west african record sleeves and of course the music inside.

* Dj Nomad (Africaine 808/ Vulkandance Records/ Kréyol)
Nomad is one of the most well respected Tropical DJ’s and Record Collectors in the world. Besides being the founder of Vulkandance and being one half of the Music Project AFRICAINE 808, he is co-founder of Kréyol. He’s one of the biggest collectors of African and Tropical Dance music in Europe, and a worldwide reknown expert on West African as well as Southafrican Soul, Funk and Disco.

* La Kobra Tropical (Colombia)
Hailing from Cali, Colombia- capital of Salsa and a little piece of heaven on earth- Luis Antonio Delgado A.K.A. La Kobra Tropical is one of the most prolific record hunters on the Latin side of the world. A core member of the „Guaqueros“ group (along with ‚Frente Cumbiero‘ member Mario Galeano) La Kobra’s DJ sets avoid clichés and instead reach deep inside the history of cultural encounters with one goal in mind: To make you dance.

* Edna Martinez (Prende la Vela/ Latinarab/ Kréyol)
Edna Martinez grew up in Cartagena de Indias, in the colombian caribbean which influence her musical selection: African organic rhythms, Tropical sounds, Champeta, Cumbia, Latin and even Arabic folklore. She is an artist, creator and organizer of cultural events like „Prende la Vela“ that faithfully recreate the Afro-Latin culture in Berlin, „Latinarab“, and co-founder of „Kréyol“ and she is also a lover of records and dancing. https://www.mixcloud.com/edna-martinez/

* ERIC OWUSU (live percussion)
Eric Owusu is from Ghana and plays at the Pat Thomas & Kashibu Area Band, Africaine 808 and has also played with Ebo Taylor and Gyedu – Blay- Ambolley
